The pre-existent Jesus

2008 March 4

I haven’t posted much about my views of the Old Testament and the many many times that Jesus Christ (before the incarnation) appears. You’ll have to check out Christ The Truth for more. It is my conviction that a lot of Jesus’ words and actions make sense when you realise he is saying, in effect, “Remember all those things the LORD God did, the things you read about in the Old Testament? That was me!”

The NT scholar Simon Gathercole has written a book outlining evidence for this in the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke). He gave some talks in 2004 that formed the basis of the book, which have now been posted online, together with two others:

  • The Synoptic “I Have Come” Sayings of Jesus and Pre-Existence, Part 1
  • The Synoptic “I Have Come” Sayings of Jesus and Pre-Existence, Part 2
  • The Synoptic “I Have Come” Sayings of Jesus and Pre-Existence, Part 3
  • Sin in God’s Economy: Agencies in Romans 1 & 7
  • The Petrine and Pauline Sola Fide in Galations 2
  • [HT Between Two Worlds]

Thanks for the links – I didn’t know about the Gathercole stuff. I’ll have to check it out.

I haven’t gotten around to pre-existence posts on my blog either. It just seems so ordinary to me now! Almost like it’s not worth mentioning – never thought I’d say that!!

Must go and post on it toute suite
